Through my Technology in Kinesiology (KIN 710) grad class, I recently learned about the use of Personal Learning Networks, or known simply as PLN. These are networks that utilize search engines on the internet to gather information regarding a specific topic in order to bundle, or "curate", the information into one ideal location. Examples include Aggregage, Amplify, Bundlr, Clipboard, Curated.by, Pearltrees, Pinterest, Scoop.it, Snip.it, Storyfy, Tumblr, and so on.
For the purpose of my goalkeeping and strength & conditioning blogs (on this website), I chose to create a PLN using the site called Scoop.it, due to the application's ability to gather sources directly from primary sources on the web, and create a "curated magazine" which collaborates and thus organizes information under a single header. Snoop.it basically uses key words based on preferences for a specific topic of interest and makes informed searches using the world wide web to find related topics of interest. This allows me create a topic, such as goalkeeping, and enter key words which Snoop.it then utilizes to search the web for me and stream articles based on similar topics directly onto my topic's feed. I can then click on an article of interest, click the "Snoop.it" button (which adds it to my topic feed on my profile), and publish it to share with others via other web applications, such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, and so on.
Using my Snoop.it account, I created two topics including "Goalkeeping" and "Strength & Conditioning", both of which directly relate to this blog-site. With this set-up, I can now find information regarding these two topics based on articles published on the web, and share them directly with this site for viewers (such as yourself) to utilize as well. My goal is to discover educated and informed articles of related topics for others to read and gain new insight that may be useful in their areas of interest.
You can now access my Snoop.it feeds directly from this blog-site, or at http://www.scoop.it/u/steven-waite
