I recently completed a 10-mile race in Fresno, CA in which I recorded a new PR (Personal Record). I ran the 10 mile course at Woodward Park in 57:59 (min:sec) which is a 5:48 min/mile pace. I took 5th overall and won my age bracket (20-25 years). This particular race had a lot more meaning to it then I had presumed beforehand. Not only did I run the best time I've ever posted, but more importantly I was enlightened to an idea that had come across my mind only once before.
Back in November of last year (2013), I ran the Two Cities Half Marathon in Fresno with my fiancé, Cat. At the registration event, the day before the race, we came across the FCA Endurance team booth. The booth was run by volunteers who raced for the FCA Endurance adult racing team, who took advantage of their time with the local community by evangelizing to everyone who they came into contact with. When I approached, they welcomed me to the event and asked me questions about my running experience, faith, and background. They were nice enough to offer me free gear and brochures, and left me wondering more about their team.
After spending the remainder of the winter season training for the new year full of great races, I eventually came to the conclusion that I wanted to join a race team to make my training more worth-while. However, I didn't want to join a team that would cost me an arm and a leg, and I wanted to join something worth my time. So, after performing so well at the Rotary 10-Mile Run at Woodward Park, I decided to pursue joining the FCA Endurance team. I was immediately welcomed onto the team and made my commitment to run every event this year wearing the FCA colors and supporting my Lord and Savior as I perform out in the community.
The FCA Endurance team is a great support group who encourages athletes to pursue excellence in their field of interest, all while brining glory to God through the gift of performing at a high level. I am extremely thankful, and so excited to be a part of the team and to have the opportunity to volunteer at community events and race while declaring my faith in Jesus Christ.
If you have any interests or questions in running for the FCA Endurance team, or any other interests in serving for and with the FCA, please feel free to leave comment below.
Thanks and God Bless!
